Recovery support

Use LED as an adjunct, not a replacement for aftercare

Healite II photobiomodulation may be used after selected procedures to support comfort, visible redness, swelling and skin recovery. It can also be considered before some procedures when a calmer skin baseline is desirable.

LED suitability, wavelength and timing depend on the treatment, skin condition and clinician recommendation. It does not replace medical care or procedure-specific instructions.

Start with the procedure

Recovery is different after each treatment

The treatment-specific instructions from your clinician always take priority over a general recovery guide.

After peels or SQT

Redness, tightness, dryness or flaking

Keep the routine simple, avoid active skincare and allow visible flaking to shed naturally. LED may be recommended for comfort and recovery support.

After Cosmelan

Structured pigment-treatment recovery

Follow the prescribed home-care program exactly. Redness, peeling, dryness and sensitivity can be expected and should be managed according to your Cosmelan plan.

After HIFU or RF

Heat, tenderness or temporary swelling

Most clients have limited downtime, but temporary warmth, tenderness, swelling or sensitivity can occur. Avoid adding unnecessary active treatments while the area settles.

After aesthetic procedures

Follow the treatment-specific instructions

Recovery varies according to the procedure, treatment area and practitioner instructions. LED may be discussed as an adjunct, but it does not replace medical aftercare.

The recovery window

Protect the barrier while the skin settles

More products do not usually mean faster recovery.

After an active procedure, the skin may be warmer, drier, more reactive or temporarily more permeable. The safest approach is usually to reduce unnecessary products, avoid heat and friction, and follow the exact plan given by the treating practitioner.

Post-treatment skin recovery and gentle aftercare
First 24 hours

Protect and simplify

Use the products advised by your practitioner, avoid heat and unnecessary touching, and do not introduce exfoliants or active skincare.

Days 1–3

Watch the skin response

Redness, dryness, tightness, tenderness or mild swelling may still be present depending on the procedure. Continue gentle care and sun protection.

Days 3–7

Allow natural recovery

Peeling or flaking may become more visible after resurfacing treatments. Do not pick, scrub or force the skin to shed.

After the skin settles

Restart actives gradually

Resume retinoids, acids, scrubs and other active products only when your clinician has advised that the barrier is ready.

Healite II timing

LED before and after aesthetic procedures

Photobiomodulation is commonly used as supportive care around aesthetic procedures because it is non-thermal and does not create another controlled injury.

Immediately after treatment

Healite II may be added after selected procedures to support comfort, visible redness, swelling and the early recovery window.

During the recovery week

Standalone sessions may be recommended when skin remains reactive, dry, tender or visibly inflamed after an eligible procedure.

Before a planned procedure

For selected clients, pre-treatment LED may be used to support a calmer baseline and prepare the skin before a procedure. It does not guarantee less downtime or prevent a reaction.

As part of a course

A short LED course may be more appropriate than one session when recovery support, redness or barrier comfort is an ongoing concern.

General aftercare

What usually helps — and what to avoid

Your written aftercare remains the source of truth for your procedure.

Usually helpful

  • Follow the written aftercare from the treatment provider
  • Use a gentle cleanser and simple moisturiser where advised
  • Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily
  • Keep the skin hydrated without overloading it with products
  • Use cool compresses only where your practitioner permits
  • Contact the clinic if symptoms are stronger or last longer than expected

Usually avoided during recovery

  • Picking, peeling, scrubbing or exfoliating the skin
  • Retinol, AHAs, BHAs and other strong actives until cleared
  • Saunas, steam rooms, hot baths and excessive heat
  • Heavy exercise when your aftercare instructs you to avoid sweating
  • Unplanned facials, lasers or active procedures during recovery
  • Using internet advice instead of your procedure-specific instructions

Contact the clinic or seek medical care for unexpected symptoms

Mild redness, warmth, dryness or tenderness can be normal after some procedures. The following symptoms should not be managed only with skincare or LED.

  • Severe or worsening pain
  • Blistering, burns or open areas
  • Rapidly increasing swelling
  • Pus, spreading redness, fever or other infection signs
  • New visual symptoms or severe eye-area swelling
  • An allergic-type reaction, breathing difficulty or widespread rash
FAQs

Skin recovery questions

Common questions about LED timing, redness, peeling, active skincare and when to seek help.

Use the products specified in your treatment aftercare. In many cases, this means a gentle cleanser, simple moisturiser and broad-spectrum sunscreen, while temporarily avoiding retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs.

Healite II LED may be used as an adjunct after selected aesthetic procedures to support skin comfort, visible redness, swelling and recovery. It does not replace treatment-specific aftercare or medical review when symptoms are abnormal.

For selected clients, LED may be used before a procedure to support a calmer skin baseline and treatment preparation. Evidence for photobiomodulation supports anti-inflammatory and repair-related effects, but pre-treatment LED cannot guarantee reduced downtime or prevent complications.

LED is often used immediately after eligible procedures or during the following days. Timing depends on the procedure, skin response and practitioner instructions.

Yes, where suitable. A selected-treatment LED add-on starts from $39 and may be recommended to support comfort and recovery after SQT, facials or peels.

No. If peeling is an expected part of the treatment, LED should not be presented as a way to stop the intended renewal process. It may support comfort and recovery while the skin heals.

Restart active skincare only when the skin is settled and your practitioner has cleared you. The correct timing differs after a light facial, professional peel, SQT, Cosmelan or another procedure.

Mild redness can be expected after many treatments. Contact the clinic if redness is spreading, becoming more painful, accompanied by heat, discharge, blistering, fever or lasting longer than the expected recovery period.

Yes. New eligible LED clients can receive their first standalone Healite II session free after suitability screening. Offer terms and clinic availability apply.
